What is an Independent Funeral Celebrant?
They are independent, self-employed people from various backgrounds, who will sit alongside you and help you to plan the Funeral Service you want to write. It will be your Service, enabled for you and officiated (or delivered) by the Celebrant.
How do I choose a Celebrant?
You will probably meet with a Funeral Director of your choice and they will chat with you about your wishes. The Funeral Director will then make a suggestion to you about the Celebrant (or Clergy) they believe will be the best match for you. Or you can find your own Celebrant. You contact them yourself and advise them who your Funeral Director is. They will then liaise with them on your behalf.

If you would like to choose me as your Celebrant, and you are visiting a Funeral Director, please request me by name and give them my details.
What if I want to do the Funeral myself?
This is something people are more commonly doing, be it with a Natural Ceremony or in some other way. The Celebrant you contact can assist you in how to put a Service together. As well as using your own transport, choosing burial and casket or shroud, to the writing your own service. The Celebrant can officiate for you on the day if you wish.
What do I do when my loved one has died?
As the deceased’s Next Of Kin, you will need to obtain a medical certificate from the Doctor who has declared the cause of death. Then attend the Registrar’s office of Marriages, Births and Deaths. The Registrar will ask you questions and then issue you with a Death Certificate and a Cremation Certificate. You may want more than one Certificate. The first one is free and the rest are charged at a small cost to you.
How much does it cost?
The basic cost for a funeral or house blessing is £250. £300 for Sign Supported English (SSE). Read more about what is included in the price under Pricing.
